When Bureaucracy Costs Lives
In Part 2 of my interview with cystic fibrosis survivor Chris MacLeod, he reveals the unbelievable story of an infection that nearly cost him his life. And even more incredible is the gargantuan effort he made, clinging to life, from his hospital bed in an effort to bring an experimental drug into the country. That drug ultimately saved his life. But he didn’t stop there. Chris then successfully lobbied the Canadian government to bring that same drug to other CF patients. He continues to fight with the government to this day arguing for fair and equal access to medication for all CF patients across the country.
It’s a riveting story of a man who continues to shrug off his heroic acts as something anyone would do. He is an extraordinary example of the kindness and selflessness we are all capable of.
